About the Department

The Redden Court PE department endeavours to deliver a wide curricular and extra curricular programme to allow students to learn and progress in a number of different sports and activities. As well as the core PE programme, students in KS4 will have the opportunity to study GCSE PE and VCert Health and Fitness. The department consists of six experienced teachers (three male and three female) who work closely to deliver core and credited PE lessons, an extensive extra curricular programme and many trips, both in the UK and overseas.

Within the last ten years the department has had lots of extra curricular success, both on the boys and girls side. We have had many sports teams crowned champions in Havering, Essex, East London and at a Regional and National Level. The expectation of the department is that students work hard both in lessons and extra curricular clubs in order to improve their own and their teams performances and be the best sportsperson they can possibly be.

In 2019 we saw the start of the Redden Court Sports Academy (RCSA). The academy started alongside our Sporting Aptitude programme, where the school can select up to 10% of the intake based on a student's sporting aptitude.

What will your child learn in year seven?

In year seven the main aims of the department are the following;

In lessons students will take part in the following team and individual sports;  basketball, football, rugby, cricket, netball, hockey, volleyball, rounders, trampolining, cross country, athletics, table tennis, fitness, gymnastics, dance and table tennis. Students will also have the opportunity to develop and maximise their skill set in these activities at extra-curricular activities, which are available before, during and after school.

How can learning progress beyond the classroom?

The opportunities within PE at Redden Court are endless. A student’s learning doesn’t stop when they leave the PE lesson due to the amount of clubs, fixtures, trips and tours that are available to them. The extra curricular activities are extensive and broad and there isn’t a school sport which we don’t offer before, during or after school.

With regards to trips and tours, there are plenty to attend. These are some of the trips and tours we have offered in the last academic year; Spain Football and Netball Tour, Lords Cricket Ground, England Netball, Woodrow High House, BBL Basketball at the O2, England Football, Varsity Rugby at Twickenham and plenty more.

What ambassador opportunities are available to your child?

Students who gain entry to the school via the Sporting Aptitude programme and excel in PE and sport will have the opportunity to be selected for the Redden Court Sports Academy (RCSA). This process begins in year 7 and allows the department to develop our students to become outstanding performers and eventually leaders and ambassadors.

In year 10, students at Redden Court will have the opportunity to become a sports leader. The role of the sports leader is to lead and organise house sports events as well as taking on leadership roles at primary school sports events within Havering. Redden Court has some of the best sports leaders in the borough and we are always proud of our students when they take on these ambassadorial roles.
