The aim of the MFL Faculty is to create an atmosphere that stimulates students' interest, where they participate and are eager to learn and develop a positive attitude to the learning of languages and culture.
Students are assessed on arrival in Year 7 and placed in groups based on their mathematical ability. Our programme of study builds upon and consolidates the learning at Primary level and also extends and challenges students to prepare them for the demands of the new GCSE course which they begin in Year 10.
As an EBACC subject, the vast majority of students must study MFL to KS4 and we offer French at the moment and are looking at re-introducing another language in the future. We follow the Edexcel syllabus and use current resources including interactive textbooks and authentic resources such as magazines, books and DVDs. We give students the tools necessary to enable them to become effective, independent linguists. They all have free accounts with Activelearn and are issued with a variety of online support such as SAM Learning, Linguascope plus published revision guides and resources. We also encourage ESOL students to sit GCSE exams in their home language.
We run an annual residential trip to France which is always oversubscribed.
