We take a proactive, multi-layered approach to digital safety throughout the academic year:
Whole School: All students receive a dedicated E-Safety Assembly led by Mr Pendred.
Year 7: E-safety is a core topic within the Computing curriculum to ensure a strong foundation as they start their journey with us.
Year 9: Students undertake a specific unit on AI in Computing, exploring how to use these tools effectively while understanding the ethical dangers and pitfalls.
PSHE Curriculum: Online safety is woven into our PSHE lessons across all year groups. This includes age-appropriate discussions on:
Year 7 & 8: Managing online relationships and digital footprints.
Year 9 & 10: Understanding online influence, grooming, and the impact of social media on mental health.
Year 11: Navigating adult content and online financial security.
To ensure a focused and safe learning environment, we maintain a no-phone policy during the school day. Furthermore, we utilise Smoothwall filtering and monitoring software. This system monitors and filters searches and content accessed via the school network or school-issued devices, both on-site and at home.
While we do significant work in school, the most effective way to keep children safe is through open, honest conversation at home. We encourage you to speak with your child about their online experiences and the new challenges posed by AI.
